Acclaimed chef Jordan Martinez, known for his three Michelin-starred restaurant 'Elevation,' has opened a new dining establishment that represents a significant departure from his usual fine dining approach.
The new restaurant, named 'Abuela's Kitchen,' draws inspiration from Martinez's childhood growing up in his grandmother's home in New Mexico. The menu features elevated versions of the family recipes he learned as a child, alongside other nostalgic American and Mexican comfort foods.
'This is the most personal project of my career,' Martinez told us during an exclusive tour of the space. 'Every dish has a story behind it, a memory attached to it. I wanted to create a place that feels like coming home.'
The restaurant's design reinforces this concept, with decor elements inspired by his grandmother's home, including vintage photographs, hand-embroidered textiles, and a collection of cast iron cookware similar to what his grandmother used.
Despite the homey concept, Martinez's technical expertise is evident in the execution. Critics who attended preview dinners have praised the balance between nostalgia and culinary innovation.
'The food may be inspired by home cooking, but the techniques and presentation are unmistakably from a chef at the top of their game,' wrote one prominent food critic.
Abuela's Kitchen opens to the public next week, with reservations already booked solid for the first three months.
